What is DoraeSubs?
DoraeSubs is a non-profit fansub project dedicated to creating good English subs of the Doraemon anime and movies.While recognizable in most other parts of the world, Doraemon is less known in the Anglosphere. However, it has garnered a cult following there, thanks to hardcore anime fans, as well as the Disney XD/Bang Zoom! English dub that aired in the US. The problem with Doraemon's following in the Anglosphere, however, is that there are no good English subs for the anime. These subs are poorly translated and often don't make sense to English speakers. Our mission is to create good subs for Doraemon for English-speaking fans of the series to enjoy.We post videos about Doraemon every week, along with progress updates on the fansub. We never upload full episodes of Doraemon, nor do we make a cent from these subs, and all profits go towards paying our team to keep DoraeSubs going.Follow the official DoraeSubs social media accounts to help support the project! Meet the Founder!
Jaden Michael Reed, a young writer and animation geek with high-functioning autism, is one of the biggest Doraemon fans in America and the lost CINAR English dub's biggest fan, to the point where he wrote an entire (incomplete) fanfiction depicting what the episodes would've been like had Weinberg and Turner saw the potential like Disney Channel India did with the Hindi dub!He created DoraeSubs out of his passion for the internationally recognized robo-cat from the 22nd century, and because he couldn't find good English subs for the 1979 anime. He was first introduced to Doraemon circa late 2014 when he downloaded episodes of the English dub on Disney XD On Demand in the United States. Years later, out of nostalgia for the dub, he watched subbed episodes of the original 1979 anime on those KissyToon sites and saw the problem with the anime's existing English subs. These subs are poorly translated and incomplete, leading to confusion among English-speaking viewers, and while there are other English subs of the anime available, they are hard to come by and sometimes lost forever due to copyright claims from TV Asahi Corporation and Toho. You would think Crunchyroll would have an official sub since they report on the anime on their website, but because of TV Asahi's strict policy on distributing the original anime in the US, Doraemon is one of the few Fujiko Fujio adaptations not to be distributed on the site.Currently, DoraeSubs is a one-man project led by Jaden, even though he likes to refer to it as "we." Now that financing has begun for the English fansubs, he will use the money from the official DoraeSubs BMC page to find a team to help him on his mission to bring Doraemon to the Anglosphere, one line at a time.
